SAFETY
None of this is left to the caregiver's discretion. These are fixed procedures.
Every 5 minutes we check that baby is on their back, and look at their colour and breathing, and write it down — 108 times a night. The national guideline is every 5–15 minutes; we use the shortest interval.
We do not watch from another room by baby monitor. The guideline asks the caregiver to check breathing, position and sleep directly, which a monitor cannot do.
For all nine hours. Between feeds, the caregiver writes the record, prepares the next feed and washes bottles, staying close to baby.
| Seizure, unusual breathing, not fully conscious, choking | We call 119 (ambulance) at once, tell the family and contact our company |
|---|---|
| Heavy vomiting, injury | We tell the family at once and contact our company |
| Fever, unusual crying, not drinking milk | We tell the family |
| An older sibling is unwell | We tell the family |
If the family is asleep, we wake you to tell you. We never decide to "wait and see": whether to see a doctor is for the parents and medical professionals to decide.
Each caregiver always carries a card with the criteria and contact numbers.
